Inauguration of Graduate Library Membership

Graduates from any University who are residing permanently in Kerala are eligible to seek Membership under this scheme, which has to be renewed annually. Download Graduate Membership application form from here.
Electronic Theses and Dissertations (ETD) Lab
University library has digitised 1874 PhD theses awarded by the Mahatma Gandhi University till recently which can be accessed through www.mgutheses.org. The site has received three coveted recognitions-Excellence Award of Government of Kerala in e-learning and commendations from UNESCO and INTUTE Online Service Consortium of Universities (UK). The ETD Lab had been set up in the University Library at a cost of Rs. 7.5 Lakhs using the grant received from UGC.

IEEE Journals & Magazines at MGU Library
IEEE publishes the leading journals, transactions, letters, and
magazines in electrical engineering, computing, biotechnology,
telecommunications, power and energy, and dozens of other technologies.
IEEE journals are now pen to Mahatma Gandhi University through UGC-Infonet Programme. http://www.ieee.org
E-Resources@UGC-Infonet Digital Library Consortium
The UGC-Infonet Digital Library Consortium was formally launched
in December, 2003 by Honourable Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam, the
President of India soon after providing the Internet connectivity to
the universities in the year 2003 under the UGC-Infonet programme.
The Consortium provides current as well as archival access to more
than
7500+ core and peer-reviewed journals and 10 bibliographic databases
from 26 publishers and aggregators in different disciplines. The
programme has been implemented in phased manner. In the first phase
that began in 2004, access to e-resources was provided to 50
universities who had Internet connectivity under the UGC-Infonet
Connectivity programme of the UGC.
In the second phase, 50 more
universities were added to the programme in the year 2005. So far 209
Universities including 14 National Law schools and central universities
that come under the purview of UGC, have been provided differential
access to subscribed e-resources. These e-resources covers almost all
subject disciplines including arts, humanities, social sciences,
physical sciences, chemical Sciences, life sciences, computer sciences,
mathematics and statistics, etc. The programme is wholly funded by the
UGC and executed by the INFLIBNET (Information and Library Network)
Centre, Gndhinagar.

Koha Implementation Programme Inaugurated in Mahatma Gandhi University Library
Koha,
the free Integrated Library Management Software has been installed in
M.G.University Library.
The Koha implementation programme was
inaugurated by Hon’ble Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. Sheena Shukkur on
13-8-14 in the Seminar Hall of the library at 12 pm.
The function was
presided by Prof. A.M. Thomas and welcomed by Smt. Laila T. Abraham,
Deputy Librarian -in-charge of University Library. Shri. K.K.
Murali, Assistant Librarian introduced Koha to the audience.
Followed
are the felicitations by Shri. K. Sheraffudin, Member Senate and
leaders of the Employees organizations such as Shri. P.Padma Kumar,
Shri. Jose Mathew, Shri. K. Rajagopal and Shri. Shiby V.C.
The
meeting was concluded with the vote of thanks of Smt. Annu George,
Deputy Librarian of M.G.University Library.

Koha : an integrated library management system, Trial run at MG University Library.
University Library will be installing Koha: an integrated Library Mnagement System shortly by replacing the exisitng software SOUL.
Then the loan period of books will be 25 days and the overdue charge
will be Rs.1/day. Hence all the library members are requested to provide
the following requisites for the effective implementation of the
software.
2. To report their Membership No., Name, E-Mail ID, and Mobile No. at the Library issue/return counter or send to libupdates@gmail.com.
Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) is availabe in the entire campus
Users can access their account by login
to OPAC using username (member ID) and password, please ask at
issue/return counter for your password.

Scientific works of Sir Isaac Newton is now Online
Cambridge University Library holds the largest and most
important collection of the scientific works of Isaac Newton
(1642-1727). University presents here an initial selection of Newton's
manuscripts, concentrating on his mathematical work in the 1660s.

Darwin Papers from Cambride University
The collection of Charles Darwin's papers at the University Library
originates in the work of his son Francis, who published two editions
of his father's letters, in 1887 and 1903. For these editions he
collected as many of Charles's letters and papers as possible, which
remained in the family after Francis died. In 1942 the Pilgrim Trust
and the Darwin family gave most of these papers to the University
Library, another portion being given to the museum recently established
at Down House.

International Book Fair INBOFA 2012.
Mahatma Gandhi University Library Presents INBOFA 2012
International Book Fair, INBOFA2012, is
conceived to be an Academic Carnival for the promotion of serious
readership through intellectual interactions at the instance of a Book
Exhibition, rather than a mere trade-show of books. The focus of
INBOFA2012 clearly extends beyond books and book-trade. An unusual
Carnival, INBOFA2012 seeks to try and bring academic readership to the
ridge of the ocean of knowledge, to have a feel of currents and eddies
therein, and experience the publication industry's fascinating ways of
distributive navigation. It attracts sellers and buyers, publishers and
distributors, readers and readings, authors and editors, besides the
general public, to one location of festive occasion.
A variety of programmes such as theme based discussions, seminars,
workshops, authors' meet, book launching and book reading sessions along
with cultural and literary events offers additional incentives for the
knowledge-seekers as well as the interested public to make it their

University to gain from PURSE
Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, is one among the 30 universities in India selected by the Department of Science and Technology for funding under the DST-PURSE programme. Under it, the university will receive Rs.9 crore for development of research infrastructure.
The university has been placed eighth among the 30 top Indian universities selected under this programme based on its h-index (a measure to assess the quality of research in science), university authorities say.
The Promotion of University Research and Scientific Excellence (PURSE) scheme provides substantive research grants to universities based on the scientific publications in Science citation indexed journals through the SCOPUS database. The department identified universities with h-index ranging from 42-26 for R&D support during 2010-11. Mahatma Gandhi University had an h-index of 35.
The university will receive Rs.3 crore every year for three years. The grant is to be utilised by the School of Chemical Sciences, the School of Biosciences, the School of Environmental Sciences, and the School of Pure and Applied Physics, along with interdisciplinary centres such as the Centre for Nanosciences and Nanotechnology, Centre for Intensive Research in Basic Sciences, Inter-University Common Instrumentation Centre. A project implementation group (PIG) consisting of academics from all the science disciplines has been constituted by the university as per the DST guidelines.
